Meaningful Content: Wisdom from Traditional Perspectives

Upon glancing over an article on Ragan’s PR Daily, the image featured as a representation of social media content strategy got me thinking. As a young adult and a millennial, I know it has been a struggle for my generation to stop using social media for petty quarrels or passive-aggressive competition. Transitioning into the professional world, this graphic nestled into my heart; it may have wedged in initially due to my unhealthy addiction to coffee, but it also made me begin to analyze on a broader scale.

In musing about what “meaningful content” really entails, this popped into my head:

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29

I’m not very good at sticking to this, personally, as I tend to be impatient with those who don’t agree with the vital importance of studying literature and the human condition. Sometimes, I let my passion cloud my judgement.

However, no matter religious affiliation, I feel these are good words to live by, especially concerning a social media presence (personal AND/OR professional.)
